The government clampdown on all things gaming since the first Covid lockdown in March was justified by them due to the predicted surge in online gambling. The tortes were convinced that with the inability to visit your local arcade or bookies that everyone would instead increase their online gambling. A #gamblingpandemic was predicted. But, like with a lot of things at the moment, the clueless wonders were wrong.

Latest statistics show only 3 percentage points of growth in the online gambling sector. Bear in mind there has been little or none in sports betting for large periods of this year, the only real leap came with the relaunch of mainstream football, with in-game betting leaping by 15 percentage points, but on,y in the first week of Premier League football.
