WHAT MAKES YOU WATCH? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE FROM US?

If you type “Fruit Machines” into YouTube search engine then you get presented by a massive choice of different types of video, from the guy filming a big jackpot on his phone down his local pub, to the people showing off their personal collection of machines and all the way up to the professional online gamers with round the clock live streams. Picking what to watch can be difficult, but what keeps you coming back for more?

I first came across #ReelWorldSlots by accident. A video on YouTube showed a group of guys playing fruit machines in a number of arcades in North Wales. I was drawn in by the fact that they were playing the machines I loved from the 90’s. In particular in that video they were on Andy Capp and Cops & Robbers. Nostalgia to me and my mates going quids in, during a busy Saturday night at the Nags Head, made me smile from ear to ear. What made me continue to watch was the unbelievable way they were playing the machine. They weren’t in this for a couple of quid wins, they wanted the jackpots, they wanted the super streaks and low and behold they got them! I had never seen anyone play these machines which such a care free gusto.

I had to check out the channel. There were lots of videos, most on a similar theme. I clicked on one with bigger jackpots. I saw this guy #Onetec do pie gambles that made my testicles retract in pure fear! He just wanted that £500 jackpot and he got it! His banter was pretty good too. There was other guy called #Retro, the bond between them was undeniable. I subscribed to the channel and put my notifications on. They’d joined a list of channels, but the rest were all American, big stakes, modern machines. These guys were different.

As my notifications pinged I saw a live stream was about to start. It was a “Slot battle” a new phenomenon for me. You picked a classic slot from the website and anyone could join in. I did it! Very unlike me, but I enjoyed the banter and wanted a go. I watched every night, hooked on if I would get a go. I found myself involved in the live chat. Typing away making my usual daft comments. Retro read them out! I was being included! From that moment I felt part of something that took me away from normal life, people I had never met, but they made me feel welcome and provided a fun place in the midst of a global pandemic!

I have been hooked ever since. I support the channel via liking videos, contributing in live chat, leaving comments on YouTube videos and indeed now I write these blogs as a thank you to the #HairySlotters for their phenomenal work.
