AGC, FEC and UFEC: What the Arcade Names Mean
Updated: Sep 20
Two places can both be called an arcade and still be very different venues. The initials AGC, FEC and UFEC help explain who can enter and which gaming machines may be offered.
An adult gaming centre, or AGC, is for people aged 18 and over. Its permitted machine categories include B3, B4, C and D, subject to the relevant conditions.
A licensed family entertainment centre, or FEC, can offer Category C and D machines. Its Category C area must be separated and supervised to keep under-18s out.
An unlicensed family entertainment centre, or UFEC, can offer Category D gaming machines under a permit from the local licensing authority. ‘Unlicensed’ here does not mean that the venue has no rules or permissions.
For a family day out, check the individual premises rather than relying on the word ‘arcade’ above the door. Follow the signs for restricted areas and ask staff if you are unsure where children are allowed.
